SURF EXPRESSIONISM

Is an art form that blends the natural with the spiritual.
My works are not representations of tangible objects, instead they are an expression of emotions.
Color and texture play a major role in influencing our daily emotional state. We learn to associate different emotions with differing shades of color.
Hot pink, for example, is usually perceived as uplifting and joyous since it is most often seen in a flamingo, a beach house, or in cotton candy, all of which are associated with happier times of childhood, of carnivals, of seaside vacations.  Turquoise, the color of a tropical sea and sky framed by the gentle sway of palm trees on a trade winds soft caress, evoke dreams of a far off exotic land.  Canary Yellow, a sun drenched diamond on a sandy beach, the wing beat of a golden finch, the Autumn sun's kiss on a golden rod covered dune.  Lavender, dappled rays of light on carpeted fields of purple violets, a warm gentle breeze dancing through a meadow, wafting whispers of fragrant floral aromas.  Each color arouses a distinct emotion, a particular memory of a distant place, of a happier time. It is these emotions that are captured and conveyed in each unique, one of a kind work. The more time you spend with my work, the deeper your emotional experience will be.

Artist Statement

"I paint emotions". Each work is a grand experiment in form and technique, an evolution in method and materials that reduces the complexity of nature into basic forms of color and texture, creating a personal experience between the viewer and the image. Within each work lies a larger reality, a greater truth, that all of our emotions, our memories, our feelings of nostalgia, are evoked by and based on our perception of the interplay between colors and textures. Drawing inspiration from the present and the past, incorporating the four elements of sand, surf, sun, and sky, each work weaves time and space into a fluidic vision of reality where man exists in harmony within nature.

Biography

A self-defined artist, and New Jersey Native, Miklos Sipos fuses art and technology, nature and chemistry, into an alchemic expression of emotions and perceptions, creating a world where technology and nature exist in harmony. Drawing inspiration from the microscopic interplay of the organic and inorganic natural world, he combines Colonial pottery techniques, natural materials, unique pigments, modern polymer chemistry (including additives, thickeners, and curing), with lesser known secrets of the palette knife to breath life into each work. The paintings are untitled “for to name an image narrows the viewer’s range of emotional awareness thereby diminishing their experience and limiting their imagination”.

Each work contains sand from his favorite Jersey Shore beaches, from Bayhead, NJ to Long Beach Island, these are the places of his childhood. Growing up in Jackson, New Jersey he was never far from the ocean, spending much of his time on the beaches of Bayhead and Long Beach Island. When his family moved to rural farmlands of West Jersey, his heart remained at the shore. His passion for the Shore is only matched by his passion for his art. Miklos Sipos drew on his background in Colonial Archeology, Paleontology, Polymer Chemistry, Offset Lithography, Photography and Digital Design when developing and employing his unique technique, a technique which reduces the complexity of nature into basic forms of color and texture.

His color palette ranges from rich earthly hues to bold powerful tones indicative of the various Deco styles of the 1920's, 1950's and 1980's. He has authored, illustrated, and published several books. Currently, Miklos Sipos lives and creates in the rural farmlands of West Jersey.
